Viking Build-A-Line - 3/8"
We've selected Viking as our main winch line supplier. We believe in choice here, so we've set this up so ordering your custom line is easy and quick. Simply follow the steps above and select the choices you'd like.
Step 1: Choose your line type
The Viking Trail Line™is our most popular winchline. Trail Lines are made from Genuine AmSteel-Blue™ with Samthane™, a special coating to help resist abrasion. The raw material in AmSteel-Blue™ is made from Genuine Dyneema® SK-75 HMPE fiber, "which is the worlds strongest fiber™" made by DSM in the Netherlands.
Viking Trail Lines are used for recreational four wheeling, racing, and ATV's. They are also used by the top trainers in the world including several military groups such as Navy Seals, Army Rangers and the Marines.
Step 2: Choose your color
Trail Lines and Combo Lines both are available in several colors. On the Combo Lines, the first 25' is made of Viking's Fire Line which is always red.
Step 3: Choose your length
Choose from 80', 100', 125', 150'
Step 4: Choose your protector type
We offer either the standard line protector or the Heavy Duty line protector. The HD is basically a thicker rope with a large enough inner diameter (ID) to slip over the 3/8" line during assembly. If you choose the HD protector, please subtract 1 length amount to make up for the extra space on the drum. For example, if you normally want a 100' line, please order a 90' line.
Step 5: Choose your thimble/hook type
We offer three choices here.
The first, is the crush-proof tube thimble with an 3/8" - 7/16" Excel Winchline Hook. This is our preferred setup as the hook is large and can handle d-rings or strap loops easily. The Excel hook uses a closed-loop end.
The second, is the 3/8" - 7/16" Gunnebo Sling Hook. This is also a great hook that has an additional hinged end. It also uses a compression pin to fasten to the rope so it can be removed and replaced if needed.
The third choice is the Winch Safety Thimble from Tough Stuff Products. The 2 1/2" diameter aluminum thimble won't pull through your fairlead if you fail to shut your winch off in time, thus reducing the chance of injury. The large center hole allows use of all commond D-rings and shackles, which will be required to hook up to anything.
Notes: Please keep in mind that while synthetic winch lines are safer during failures than conventional metal cables, they do require maintenance and cleaning to keep them working well. The colors also do tend to fade over time. Please inspect your line regularly for wear and tear and use your line carefully.
You will also need to use a fairlead specifically intended for use with synthetic line. Do NOT use in standard cable fairleads of any kind.
